STATEMENT FROM DFL CHAIRMAN KEN MARTIN ABOUT REP. ZELLERS ENTERING RACE FOR GOVERNOR

“Rep. Kurt Zellers’s short tenure as Speaker of the House will be forever remembered for his lack of leadership and uncompromising partisanship which led to the longest government shutdown in our state's history. Now he wants to run for Governor
“The last time Zellers was in a leadership position Minnesotans suffered because of his refusal to find common-ground on the pressing issues of our state. Instead of working towards compromise, he dug his heels in and forced government to shut down. Overwhelmingly, Minnesotans rejected his leadership in the 2012 midterms where his caucus was removed from power. Minnesotans spoke with a large voice in 2012, they didn't like his leadership then and they won't like it in November of 2014.
“After finally seeing some progress this past legislative session, the last thing Minnesotans need is to return to the times of ‘Shutdown Kurt’ where we would undoubtedly see gridlock, partisanship, and shutdowns once again.”

Letter to Editor: Carleton College students say Kline unwilling to engage with students

From the Northfield News:
The May 30 article, “U.S. Rep. John Kline hears from Northfield college leaders,” left out an important student perspective on the congressman’s visit.

The meeting was part of Congressman Kline’s broader unwillingness to engage with students in his district. During his time on campus Thursday afternoon, Mr. Kline interacted with a handful of college officials and just two students handpicked by administration.

Remembering Sharon Gates-Hull

I've received word this evening that a member of our DFL family unexpectedly passed away last night.

Sharon Gates-Hull was infectiously joyful. Her passion and zeal for life was second to none. She could light up a room with her smile and was one of the most generous and kind spirits I've ever known.

She will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and all who were touched by our friend Sharon.

Here are details on the celebration to be held of Sharon's life: http://www.northfieldfuneral.com/2013/05/10/sharon-gates-hull/

Please feel free to share your thoughts and stories of Sharon by commenting below.

- Shawn Groth, Chair - Rice County DFL

Here are some photos which Terry Rogers has shared -

Sharon loved this photo. She was so impressed that Senator Klobuchar wore the floral hair piece.

"My mother wanted to see Hilary Clinton who was going to be at the U of M stumping for Al Frankin, I called Sharon to see if she wanted to join us and of course she did. A good time was had by all."

A Must Read: The five best things about Dayton’s budget

Governor Mark Dayton went big and bold this week. He took on the most powerful special interests in order to fix Minnesota’s chronic structural budget deficit problem. Recent Minnesota Governors haven’t had the guts to do that. This governor did. The nitpickers are busily picking nits in Dayton’s proposal, and it’s not a perfect proposal. But when you focus on the big picture, there is much to admire:
